AES-256 is the Advanced Encryption Standard with a 256-bit key length, authorized by the U.S. National Security Agency for protecting classified information up to TOP SECRET. VIP applies AES-256 to data at rest and TLS 1.3 to data in transit — end to end, no exceptions.
Encryption at Rest
Every photo, video, PDF, and database record is encrypted with AES-256 before it touches persistent storage. Encryption keys are managed via a Hardware Security Module (HSM) with strict access controls, automated rotation, and full audit logging.
Encryption in Transit
All client-to-server traffic uses TLS 1.3 with forward secrecy. Certificate pinning is enforced in the mobile capture app. Legacy protocols (SSL, TLS 1.0/1.1) are disabled platform-wide.
Key Management
Customer data is encrypted with per-tenant data encryption keys wrapped by a customer-scoped key encryption key, wrapped in turn by a root key stored in HSM. Enterprise customers can bring their own key (BYOK) for full cryptographic sovereignty.
